There is a version for use in public places, (you could claim to have a headache, as you use the acupressure massage/tapping on your temples, but you would then be restricted to subvocalising: repeating to yourself in your mind): "Even though I have a distorted body image, I deeply and completely accept myself". All of these things are designed to bolster the central sense of identity, enable emotional centering, and changing the focus from that of a person's appearance. When you notice something negative, such as: "Why can't I be beautiful, like those in movies, and magazines?", or a disturbing image, recognise that this is generated by the negative part of your mind.
After identifying it, visualise a large red "STOP!" sign, and/or possibly a stern faced person wagging an index finger at you in a negative manner, then say to yourself as forcefully as you can, even aloud in a big voice, if alone: "I know this tactic: GO AWAY FOR A WHILE !!!" You may want to use either: "ruse", "ploy", "game", or "trick", instead of "tactic". In the case of an image, visualise a large "STOP" sign, or your preferred version. Some people go so far as to keep a wide rubber band in their pocket, then put it around their wrist, when they catch themselves backsliding, stretch and release it, as a method of reprogramming their mind sooner, but I don't regard it as being strictly necessary. They also tend to have a great fear of abandonment, and sometimes go to extreme lengths to prevent it. They often become involved in alcohol and/or drug abuse, and/or high risk activities. Closely examine the http://1-800-therapist.com/ & http://www.metanoia.org/choose/ websites. Contact the local & national organisations of clinical psychologists, therapists, and/or psychiatrists, to find a therapist who uses Dialectical Behavio(u)ral Therapy, or get a good book on the subject, and give to a therapist using Cognitive Behavio(u)ral Therapy (fairly common, and probably nearby) and ask that it be incorporated into your treatment. Make yourself exercise, and go out, even if you don't enjoy it, at first: it will provide one way of stopping you from thinking about your present life situation. Understand that memories fade, with the passing of time, and ask yourself where you will be in 5 years time, and 10. Most people go through similar things, though not to the same extent, and it's common for many relationships to begin, and end, especially when younger. Use the following: Technique for Re-Programming Negative Thoughts: When you notice something negative, such as: "I can't do this/ am never going to get over this!" or: "Why am I always so pathetic/useless/such a loser?" or even an image, emotion, or a memory; recognise that it is being generated from the negative part of your mind. Having identified and labelled it, visualise a large, red, flashing, "STOP!" sign, and/or possibly a stern faced person wagging an index finger at you in a negative manner, then say to yourself as forcefully as you can, even aloud in a big voice, if alone: "I know this tactic: GO AWAY FOR A WHILE !!!"
You may want to use either: "ruse", "ploy", "game", or "trick". Remember to remove it, afterwards, if you use this method. It's a good idea to only emotionally invest in a relationship, according to its length of time, and the degree of commitment from BOTH of the people involved. Express your feelings in a letter, and either post it, unaddressed, or have a ceremony, and burn it safely in a metal container, and flush the ashes down the toilet, symbolically ending the relationship, which has zero potential for anything, except causing you further distress. Give time a chance to heal, then open yourself to the possibility of a relationship with someone new. At: http://www.2knowmyself.com you may want to try: "How to get over someone" (top left hand side), or possibly even: http://www.2knowmyself.com/relationship_…
I have noticed that it usually occurs as a result of anxiety, or stress, and may be considered as a type of coping,or avoiding mechanism. It appears to be closely related to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, so view http://your-mental-health.weebly.com/g.html & pages f, m, & i, on anxiety, stress, & OCD, and practise one of the relaxation methods, daily, and when needed. Try St. John's Wort, (preferably a German variety; local ones may vary in efficacy - take with a meal; Jarsin, Perika, or Kira brands have been recommended as being effective) which is believed to act by increasing the availability of the neurotransmitters; serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine, moderately, rather than selectively giving the serotonin levels of the brain a large boost, as with antidepressants. First effects usually start at around 2 weeks, approaching maximum effectiveness at 4 - 6 weeks. View www.hypericum.com & www.sjwinfo.org/ & www.drweil.com/ :Herbs, and http://www.mind.org.uk/Information/Factsheets/Treatments+and+drugs/St+Johns+Wort++-+Hypericum+perforatum.htm but I don't recommend the HBC brand, over concerns about pesticide residues and heavy metal contamination. Use a form of occupational therapy, to keep your mind busy.
You could also take 50mg (no more) of 5-htp, and inositol, daily, with the wort. Another suggestion, for when you catch yourself doing this. Some people carry a wide rubber band in your pocket: put it on your wrist; stretch, and release, as a means of reinforcing it, and speeding up the process, re-pocketing it afterwards, but I regard this as being purely optional. It is a habit, which can be unlearned, preferably by replacing it with another, such as worry beads, or a stress ball, etc. This may take 30 - 40 repetitions, to establish. Also, give the EFT version for use in public places, a good tryout, to see if it helps you (if you like, you can claim to have a headache, as you employ the acupressure massage/tapping on your temples) "Even though I pick my skin, I deeply and completely accept myself". The acupressure technique can also be used to replace the skin picking. One therapy that I am aware of is to strongly grip the hand you normally use for 3 minutes, until the impulse to reoffend has passed. Professional EFT is always preferable. Re-program your emotional responses. Hate is a strong term; reduce it to: "I dislike myself, and my life, at present". This allows for the possibility of change. Realise, and accept that YOU are the one who programmed your mind, and that YOU have the ability to re-program it. When you notice something negative, such as: "I'm never going to get over this!" or: "Why am I always so pathetic/useless/such a loser?" or even: "I can't do this/will never get over this!", or a disturbing image, recognise that this is part of the mindset which will hold you back from progress. Having identified and labelled it, visualise a large red "STOP!" sign, and/or possibly a stern faced person wagging an index finger at you in a negative manner, then say to yourself as forcefully as you can, even aloud in a big voice, if alone: "I know this tactic: GO AWAY FOR A WHILE !!!"
You may want to use either: "ruse", "ploy", "game", or "trick", instead of "tactic". Remember to remove it, afterwards, if you use this method. Pretend you are an actor, playing the part of a friendly, approachable person. Recognise, and challenge your negative monologue (self talk). Make a conscious commitment to being positive, and optimistic, even if it is apparently unrealistic, or inappropriate, because of the benefits it will provide, later on. WORK, to change yourself into someone you can think much better of. See sections 38, and 47, and volunteer, even from home, at first, to provide a solid basis in reality for the daily affirmations: "I am a good person, who is valued by my community, because I (insert activity here)". As one insightful (paraphrasing poetically) person put it: an affirmation, without foundation is mere mental masturbation.
Make a list of all your good points, strengths, and achievements. Put it somewhere so you can easily refer to it, from time to time; perhaps on the refrigerator door, or print it; (large typeface, or capitalise) have it framed, and place in your bedroom, or in a position of prominence, such as on the television, or lounge room wall. Most people are suggestible, to some extent, so consider professional hypnotherapy, or .hypnosisdownloads.com Self Hate. "Stop self hate today. Self hate, or disgust with yourself, saps your energy, and reduces enjoyment and productivity in your life. When you feel that you hate yourself and 'deserve' bad things then you are, of course, your own worst enemy. Self hate may have arisen because of past conditioning: maybe you were fed negative ideas about yourself from others, maybe people treated you like an object to be used and thrown aside.
Perhaps the self hate really originates from another's voice and isn't your own sense of self at all. The dust and grime of years of conditioning may have obscured how you really see yourself. Perfectionism and self hate. It may be that you are a perfectionist who sees reality in black and white and therefore whenever you do something 'imperfectly' you feel disgusted with yourself. Then again perhaps you have been conditioned to feel guilty about all kinds of things and you over-ruminate about your past mistakes (which we've all made). Perhaps you feel others are better than you or that you always seem to say or do the wrong thing. Get a more realistic view of yourself. Too much self hate is still too much self regard and self-focus. When you feel more relaxed and better about yourself then you don't have to think about yourself so much and can focus more on other things in life. What a relief!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SUICIDAL THOUGHTS: When people are depressed, it prevents their brains from working well. They are experiencing emotional suffering, and want it to stop, and many can only see suicide as a way of ending it. I went through a similar thing to you; it's important to realise that you are probably deeply depressed at present, but even so, you may still remember times when things were good. Well, they can be again, and soon: but you need effective treatment, using antidepressants and/or natural/alternative ones which are readily available; all you have to do is reach out. See http://your-mental-health.weebly.com/d.html and pages 3, and B, about depression, and suicidal thoughts, and contact the hotlines, or chat sites/forums via pages D, or B. Emotional thought stopping is on page Y. "Even if we have some vague idea that we are not our feelings or our thoughts, when we are experiencing painful feelings or painful thoughts, we believe we have to feel them or think them just because of the fact that they are occurring to us. But painful feelings can be indirectly controlled by physical action, and changing our present thoughts for different thoughts (since feeling occurs as a result of thinking.) Painful thoughts can be directly controlled by choosing replacement thoughts for the ones that are troubling us. Sure, it takes some practice to change a lifetime habit of suffering. But it can be done. Of course it can't be done if we choose to believe that it can't be done. But, since the choice is ours, why not choose to believe it can be done, and do it?" If the suicidal feelings become overwhelming, take a taxi, call an ambulance, or use public transport, to take you to the nearest ER, or mental health facility, or call your local emergency number. 911 (USA), 000 (Australia), 999 (Great Britain), or 111 (New Zealand); see the phone book elsewhere. Don't drive, yourself: you may well be a danger to others on the roads, in your current mental state.
Too many people are found, and revived, but have suffered permanent mental damage, and live the rest of their lives in a semi vegetative state: their family, and friends feel guilty, and responsible, for not noticing the signs, and doing something about it. It's a very nasty thing for them to have to go through, too, even though I appreciate that life is certainly no bed of roses for you, at present, so please, get help, right now; seek assistance, or use the hotlines provided. It may induce those who cared about you to commit suicide, as well, or at least try, with undesirable consequences. When suicide is involved, family, and friends often feel guilty, and responsible, for not noticing the signs, and doing something about it when there was still time. See: http://www.cmha.ca Sometimes, if it induces suicide attempts from family members, or friends, it can result in either additional grief, for others, or horrible permanent consequences. Consider this: people who have jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge and survived; unanimously say that during the fall they realized that all their problems were nothing compared to the problem they had just created by jumping. Imagine, as vividly as possible, a time in the not too distant future, when you have got past this bad patch, and life is much better (you may feel like dismissing this, out of hand, but you have changed in the past, so the possibility is there that you can change in the future). Learn to challenge, and change your thoughts, and you can change your emotional states.
